Smoke alarms

Correction. Is there a smoke alarm that can be switched off when house is empty for a while?

Joe, no need to post again, you could just have corrected this in your original thread....

You can take out the batteries?
Which won't work if the smoke alarms are ran from the fuse box (I don't know the correct wording)

In my last house the smoke alarms were connected to the fuse box. The batteries were only for back-up in case of a power cut.
I can' see why you'd switch them off anyway. surely they won't go off unless there's a fire..
