Are you thinking of buying one?
james dyson
In that case James Dyson is looking good for being about 100 years old!

I doubt you'd be able to pinpoint the inverter of the cyclone method for extracting particles from air (and liquids) but cyclone vacuum cleaners were available in the 1930's

I have to say -I did suspect Dyson was the culprit! NO mrs.chappie-we are not thinking of buying one. I really think these wonderful"bagless" vacuum's should come with a health warning when it comes to emptying the bloody things. Us poor guys need a gas-mask/respirator to carry out that task! Bring back the paper bags please!
Wasn't it that FBI chap J. Edgar Hoover?
We have two Dysons and I think you are grossly exaggerating the emptying task. However, if you really do want to buy bags for ever, Miele make the best bagged vacs.

gingejbee - Are you telling me you can gulp down huge breaths of fresh air while you empty your dyson on a cold windy day?

Forgot to add- goggles are also required!!!
chuckfickens every site ive looked on says that dyson invented the bagless vacuum cleaner, if you can find anyone else please give me a link
Can I put a word in for Sebo vacs - the best I've ever seen. Used in Buck House, the White House & the Kremlin.

We've killed 2 Dysons and some other plastic miracles, but our Sebo has been with us for 5 years with never a blockage or any other problem.

Bob down to John Lewis and have a look?
Filter Queen made their first cyclone cleaner with a removable canister to hold the dust in 1928

You're all wrong - it was Charles Bagless in 1762
A little further looking into it.

Daniel Hess invented a vacuum cleaner in 1860 that didn't use bags, it bubbled the air and dust through tanks of water to remove the dust. this is, as far as I can see the first "bagless vacuum cleaner" in the strict sense of the term.

To take the term bagless vacuum cleaner to mean a cyclonic cleaner then it seems to be a Mr. E.H. Yonkers that invented the first one in 1928, initially sold as "Health-Mor Uprights" and later as Filter Queen. (see my link up there^)

James Dyson invented the dual cyclone vacuum cleaner sometime in the late 70's, he took a patent out on the idea in 1986 and the first dyson vacuum was released in 1993. (I say invented, he more adapted it from commercial dust extraction systems)
Hey chuck - just noticed your new avatar - is it C3PO or a jazzed up version of the Henry vac?
