Gardening

Runner Beans Plants

Although i have a huge (half an acre) garden we dont as yet actually have any 'garden' its all grass and several trees, the ground under which is useless. We are designing and changing it all soon but today ive been given a few runner bean plants - could i grow these in a grow bag? if the answer is yes could i also push a few more seeds into a grow bag for a later crop? how many plants/seeds per bag would you suggest?

A grow bag will be too shallow and will dry out far too quickly for runners. Best to use a deep pot and plant your seeds in a seperate one for a later harvest.

IfWe had the same problem when we bought a neglected piece of garden from our next door neighbour.
Buy a large good quality growbag, (not the cheapy ones as they are too thin & small) spit it in half, straight across, then stand each piece on end, stab it a couple of times for drainage & plant each "pot" with one runnerbean.
If you stand them side by side, (as many as you have plants). you can then make a bamboo or pole structure to grow them up. It even works as a wigwam with the "pots" in a circle.
You will need to feed them something like Tomorite as soon as they flower as growing bags only have limited feed value, and water them copiuosly.
Best of luck.
