this is subject to local planning laws but most are a maximum of 2 metres so 6ft may not be illegal in this case. Check with your local planning office if you need to be certain.
There is usually a 3' limit where your fence meetsa road. This is because it would obstruct neighbours from having a clear view when exiting.
