I'm not sure what it is but I've seen this before. Could be one of the succulent Euphorbias ?
Question Author
Chipchopper, thanks, I think you are on the right track, almost certainly the right family but I still cant find the exact one!
The little succulent to the right is a money plant/jade plant.
Not sure about the cactus, I'll see if I can find it.
No probs Ratter,
If it is indeed a euphorbia, there is one small test which can be done to confirm this.
This can be done by making a small cut in a leaf or stem.
If it exudes a milky white sap (laytex), this should confirm its a Euphorbia,
If the sap is watery looking, then its likely to be a cactus.
A word of warning! Euphorbia sap is toxic to humans, so you must protect your skin from contact with it by wearing rubber gloves.

I remember reading a story about a guy who was stranded in the desert and misidentified Euphorbia for cactus, he tried to take a drink from it and ended up badly burning his mouth and throat out.

Well chipchopper, I carried out the test and no white stuff in sight, just watery content. Now I'm confused.
Question Author
Robinia, yes thanks, I know the little one, that's soon to be re-potted on its own.
Me too Ratter.
Hope your search comes to a conclusion.
