just found the strangest looking plant in my garden
it has quite large green leaves, with spikey conker like seedpods about the size of a plum up the stalk, it is also coming into flower with about 3 in long white flowers any ideas

Hi Smurf.... look half way down the page and you'll see the seed pod. If it's a Datura, all parts are toxic.....

thanks mazie flowers look the same but leaves are more pointy and the seed pods are more wrapped round the stem but could be a type of that im presuming the birds have brought it

Possibly :- Ricinus communis ?
If its a datura, the scent in the evening will be delicious. If I had children or plant eating pets I would get rid, otherwise I would keep it.
Datura or 'thorn apple', very poisonous and spreads via seeds very easily. Get rid of it just so that you aren't responsible for inadvertant poisoning. I believe it is banned in some parts of the world because it is so dangerous.
