Local Building Society Competition - 2 Riddles

the dollar is up against the pound ;three to the left, 5% to the right.luckily the emergency room is right below me ! what is the key to this puzzle ?

follow the steps below to figure this one out

1 take a plain sheet of paper and draw a tree in a pot
2 get some green,red,gold,silver,blue,orange and white paints
3 paint the tree green
4 paint on some wiggly lines in gold and silver
5 paint on some spots in different colours
7 paint a brightly coloured bow on the pot
8 sit back and admire your work

point 6 is missing. its not a numbering mistake on my part so that would appear to suggest that answer fits in between 5 and 7 . there is a picture which shows a decorated tree with presents around base. therefore should answer be for 6 to paint presents around tree or is it more complicated than this ?

got me totally baffled so any help and advice much appreciated !

The first one looks like SLIVER (dollar = S, pound = L, three to the left in alphabet = I, 5 = V, emergency room = ER) - but as it describes a key, you'd expect SILVER. But that's definitely not the order
