Hello all, I've just been given an orchid and I'm usually not very good with plants. I'm going to try and make this one last, but I'm not sure on the best place to put it. The lounge is quite shady, although it gets sun for a couple of hours in the morning and the only other place that gets good light is the bedroom. Can you keep orchids in a bedroom or shall I leave it in the shady lounge? The only place available in the lounge is next to the curtain, so no light there really at all. All help appreciated (I live in a flat but I do have a small terrace).

I'd put it in the bedroom, and ignore it. Orchids (in my experience) thrive on neglect.
I know very little about gardening but, fortunately, the Royal Horticultural Society knows just about everything about it ;-)

I would think you could put it anywhere. As 2sp says, they are very easy to keep. I have managed to keep mine alive for over a year now, which is unheard of for me and plants. It just needs a drop of water now and then, and not too much sun.

and Cloverjo, you appeared as I pressed send :-)
I've got one growing on my North facing kitchen windowsill. Gets no direct sun, watered and drained once a week. It loves it and is just coming into bloom now.
