I've got a basket of sprouting supermark potatoes - not sure what type they are but likely to be a salad type or just ordinary 'new' potatoes. There is no way I 'm going to eat them before I go away for 5 weeks so if I just leave them where they are - in a basket on an open shelf under the kitchen island - will they be okay to plant out when I get back? The chits look healthy and green btw -
many thanks

I think they will be fine.
Well my dad (a farmer) says never grow from supermarket spuds since it can increase disease and you will get low yields. Always get good quality seed potatoes.
We grew some ordinary potatoes which had started sprouting, and were very happy with the results. Better than throwing them into the compost bin.

thank you all for the replies - think I'll give them a try when I get back.
do them in a black bag in a greenhouse or garage if it has some natural light and have a crop for easter
I'd grow them in bags and not the ground, it'll keep disease to a minimum if they are a bit iffy.
They need to be in a frost free cold room. If you're only heating the kitchen enough to stop freezing that' OK
