Hi,

Could I use a 35mm compression coupler to connect a piece of chrome piping to the old plastic piping under a basin?

If what you have is a waste water drain from the bottom of the sink that's chromed copper and you wish to attach this to a PVC pipe to continus the run with a compression fitting... sure. You'll have the PVC coupling with a gasket inside that fits against the metal pipe with a large exterior nut that squeezes down on the gasket fitting against the metal pipe as it's tightened....
If, however it's the other way around with the metal pipe having the compression nut and gasket, then it's likely not to fit and not leak...
