I am installing a CCTV camera outside, and was told today that you shouldn't drill through the above as it could damage the entire window frame.

It would have to be a large hole about 1 and a quarter inches diameter to allow the cable with a fixed adapter.

If I go through the cavity wall, I would have to buy a large masonry drill which are expensive, to just use once.

You could hire a masonry bit to do it. I dont see a problem drilling through the frame as long as you dont hit the glass and you seal it well afterwards.
The only problem I would see is that drilling through DG frames invalidates the 10 year warranty - the guys who fitted my new DG door wouldn't even drill a little hole for the front door bell.

Why do you have to go through the window frame?
It does seem a little strange one needs a hole big enough to pass an adapter. Certain it can't be removed and just the cable thread through ?
I'm with Methyl - take this kit back to the store and try instead a wireless solution like Y-cam.
I must admit that I would be inclined to cut the cable, send it through a small hole in the window frame, and re-connect with the right kind of screened connector.

I understand Meths' concern in his case. His situation is very rare... obviously remedial, putting right something resulting from very poor design originally.

To be sure.... how old is the house?
If the connector on the end of the cable is too big and cannot be dis-assembled then simply cut the cable at a convenient point and use either a choc bloc connector or in line plug and socket to rejoin it. There shouldn't be more than 3 wires in the cable.
