I'm afraid I don't quite understand, Graham. Do you mean a concrete base for a shed, or something to bed slate slabs onto?

There are knowledgeable people here , Worist ...but they need to understand the question first.

Thanks all , I have a qty of slate floor tiles left over from bathroom projects , its just that they can crack fairly easily- so 'best ' base ? outside ..
http:// But it would be easier than to buy & collect a qty of paving slabs ... GL |

Ah, I see now, Graham. Bedding slate floor tiles?
No problem at all. The simple truth is that anything will break if it's not supported properly. As long as each tile is "solid-bedded" (bedded over their whole surface), then you could drive over them. I would have a concrete base, then bed the slate in a simple 5:1 sand and cement mix. BUT, paint a coat of PVA under each slate first, then lay it. |

Aren't slate tiles a bit posh for using for a shed base? we used concrete.
