BRICK WALL

One wall in my kitchen has been covered with a brick facing, a bit like stone cladding but very ugly. The solution would be to have it taken off and the wall replastered but i think this would be difficult and expensive, it is a dark brick colour and seems to have real mortar between the bricks and also my wall units would have to be taken down. I wonder if it would be ok to paint this the same colour as tha walls when i redecorate but as the facing is very rough i think it may look just as bad. Has anyone ever done this and what was the result please,

No experience with it myself; but if you are not confident re the difficulty and expense of tearing it down, maybe you could replaster over the top to smooth it off ?
I've come across this many times and never really had a problem painting it...... admittedly, it does take a fair bit of patience to get the covering in all the nooks and crannies, but you could use one of the relatively new paint sprayers now available, as they work a treat and not too expensive
...or ................. assuming the brick tiles are well stuck, it would be no problem for a plasterer to plaster with Carlite Bonding, then skim to finish just like any other wall. :o)

Thank you all. The skimming over had occurred to me however the facing already sticks our a couple of centimeters from the coving so i am not sure how this would work .
Hello Janet. I hadn't noticed it was you. I guess there'd be nothing for it but to put a new piece of coving up after plastering.

I've never been a great fan of brick unless it's very old, but, given two or three coats of emulsion it would give a contemporary look. If the facings have a sandy finish, that can be largely removed with a wire brush, or some coarse paper if you prefer.
Coarse paper? The Daily sport?
Haha ............... I doubt if you'll find that in Janet's house, Sipo......... far too refined ;o)

Hi Mr. Builder yes its me once again, guess a new piece of coving is no big deal so sounds like a good solution. Tut tut Sipo, Mr. Builder is right I don't have a clue what you are talking about!!!! Shall have to get my username changed, strangely people keep thinking I am a man lo xx Janet
