Can you help to find this destroyer?

I've searched loads and loads of web sites trying to identify a WW2 destroyer number D45. It might seem simple enough but I've had no luck in finding it on all the naval sites. Can anyone help please? TIA.

I am sorry I know nothing of battle and war matters - but is there any chance this is what you are looking for?

Thanks Fay. I tried Googling loads of times and was actually on that web site. Thanks again.

Be careful - RN ships rarely change their names after being commissioned but their pennant number is subject to reallocation when they move to a new command. Pennant D45 is also recorded as being allocated to HMS Westminster and HMS Teaser.

Thank you. The photo I have is definitely not Dauntless, having checked them out on the site you kindly directed me to. I cannot find a reference for HMS Teaser, but HMS Westminster would seem to be the ship in my photo.

However, checking against photos on the web, they do seem to be slightly different, so I'm still not convinced.

Do you know the date of the photograph you're comparing to the web? The profile of many warships changed over the course of WWII, particularly with regard to funnel shape, provision of masts (radar etc) and a general increase in the amount of anti-aircraft armament.

Thanks dundurn. The photo on the second web site is the same one I have. In fact, it is part of a larger photo where it is anchored alongside HMS Glorious, the aircraft carrier which was sunk by the Scharnhorst in June 1940.

I suspect it was taken pre-war, as the Glorious does not have any camouflage painted on.

Found another site!

There are two pictures here - one in front of the Forth Bridge and another (rather sad) of Westminster waiting to be broken up. (She's carrying pennant no L40.)
