Can anyone answer how many perished in the Great Fire of London? No cheating and looking it up. I am surprised at the answer.

Surprisingly few. Only about half a dozen as I recall.
Six
Not cheating.... I think that the answer is on the lines of remarkably few. I know that a maidservant on the site of the outbreak at Farriner's bakery, was too scared of heights to jump from her window and so she perished. I would have thought that neighbouring houses were alerted. Definitely a handful at worst - I would happily risk a quid on 1.
I know it was few. The fire gave plenty of time for folk to get away. I don't recall how few though. 6 is as probably as good a guess as any, although I'd not be surprised if it were fewer.
Was it wan ?

Yup. First two share the Havana. Careful where you put the butt. Jourdain not far from the answer. Considering the amount that died of the plague it was a small price to pay for the eradication of it in terms of human cost although the fire victims would not share my opinion :-)
Have some more interesting historical/hysterical facts later.

Don't quite understand you Islay. Anyway, I'm in the middle of making salad and weighing out dog-food right now, so can't worry about it.
Thanks, Jackdaw - again, I knew that it wasn't many. One more little nugget of useless info. stored away in my overcrowded brain. How about making up a quiz team?

Why was a theatre performance abandoned at Sadler's Wells in 1952?
Something to do with the smog, I think. I remember, mid-50s, black streaks on my clothes.

What happened to, arguably, one of London's most photographed tourist attractions in 1995 and how did it happen? Hard this. More clues will be given if needed for site ID.

Beginning to think this should be in Quizzes and Puzzles but it is modern history:-)
Was it climbed ?
