I have a macBook Pro, early 2011 Macos 10.11.5
Out of the blue every time I open Safari, the history pane opens on the left side. I close it with cmd + Y but it is the same again every time I open the app. Help it's driving me crazy.

Haven't got my Mac to hand but try closing it via the menu rather than the shortcut, I 'think' it's a little like resizing Windows it remembers the setting if you close it by using the menu but not by the shortcut.
