Are You Benefiting Yourself?
55 Answers
Millions of people today want to know how to overcome problems and enjoy happy lives. History is a record of the events of man’s past. There is more than one way of looking at such history, of course. On the one hand, it is said that those who refuse to learn from the past are condemned to repeat it. On the other hand, many now assert that ‘history is no benefit.

The past is interpretable in various ways. There is always someone who points out how something the past could have acted as a warning for a more recent issue. But that is more a case of highlighting the apparent "hits" after the event.

goodlife - "Are You Benefiting Yourself?"
That's a very strange question. In linguistic terms, the question is practically meaningless. Let's see if the rest of your post makes more sense.
goodlife - "...Millions of people today want to know how to overcome problems and enjoy happy lives..."
Indeed they do. No question about that.
goodlife - "... History is a record of the events of man’s past..."
Can't argue with that. Next.
goodlife - "... There is more than one way of looking at such history, of course. On the one hand, it is said that those who refuse to learn from the past are condemned to repeat it..."
George Santayana said that. Specifically he said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.". However, you still haven't made a salient point or asked a question.
goodlife - "... On the other hand, many now assert that ‘history' is no benefit."
Do they? Who says that history is of no benefit? Names please. Also, is there a question in this? If there is, I cannot find it. Apart from the meaningless, "Are You Benefiting Yourself?" gibberish.
goodlife - Do us all - and yourself - a favour, and start writing your own questions rather than copy and pasting random quasi-philosophical claptrap.

So what are the benefit well without government there would be no order; it would be no less than mob rule. And if you have ever seen a mob in action you know what that would mean—for in a mob people take the opportunity to vent hatred, greed and viciousness, feeling that no one will identify them for punishment.
So what the benefit of this, well what hope is there of seeing a truly just and altogether good government? What would it require? First of all, the ruler would have to possess absolute authority, not being obliged to reconcile the conflicting opinions of a body of imperfect men. One that is just and fair in every respect. Wisdom and love would be needed in order to follow and apply the law for everyone’s benefit. What human today could fill such requirements?
Yet the Bible says that God “has set a day in which he purposes to judge the inhabited earth.” (Acts 17:31) For many people the prospect of being subjected to any kind of judgment is unwelcome. Is that how you feel?

Ahh. The old 'judgement day' claptrap eh? This nonsense has been spouted by countless religious types for literally thousands of years: The End Is Nigh; Armageddon, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Same old, same old.
Each and every one of these 'predictions' have one thing in common: even though they all 'predict' that the end is just around the corner, not one of them has ever been proven correct. The end is always tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, or the day after that. Oh, didn't the 'end' come? It must be coming tomorrow then... ad infinitum.
History is replete with 'end of the world' predictions. This kind of apocalyptic drivel is found within the following belief systems (and this is not a definitive list either - many more religions could be included):
Egyptian
Jewish
Roman
Norse
Zoroastrian
Buddhist
Hindu
Taoist
Christian
Muslim
Need I go on?
The fact that I am writing this and that you are reading it just goes to show that every single one of their 'end of days' predictions has come and gone without incident.
What the heck makes you think that your particular death-cult 'end of days' predication is going to be any more accurate?
