Well, sorry, Winston; I guess people are too busy nowadays to take a dent in their time to be interested in things historical:)
What would a similar watch, without the historical connections, be worth, a few hundred?

Sandy, that watch sold for around $25000. Without it's history/provenance, I'm going to guess it would go for around $5000, give or take a couple of 1000s. I have posted your question and the article on the NAWCC site, and I'll let you know if I get any responses.
