I've drawn up some detailed and complex family trees without the use of any program but it's a very laborious task. Has anybody used any free programs which will accept a GEDCOM file?

I use Family Treemaker for the database but it uses too much paper.

have you tried the ones in the Related Question below? Family trees are complex things, there's not necessarily any space-saving way of putting them together. (Sorry I can't recommend any personally, I use FTM too.)
yeah I wonder what the heir hunters use ....

I use Family tree deluxe edition

Family Tree Deluxe Edition

I think £20 is over priced and note it only goes on an old machine

when my windows 95 machine exploded - but I had back ups - I went to pawn shop to buy an identical machine - and they all said " oo you dont want thaaaat ! " but I did

so yes I bought a machine to match the software

The more modern fambly tree progs I just couldnt get into
For many years I have used PAF (Personal Ancestral File), free from the Mormons - Latter Day Saints. I find it excellent and easy to use.

I'm told that it's free because they encourage genealogical research, believing that the departed may still be converted to their faith
