Centuries ago farms were known simply by the name of the owner eg. Robinsons Farm etc, but does anyone have any idea when this practice died out and farms were given `descriptive` (for want of a better word) names?
Thanks.

It probably died out when animal farming became more of a 'production line'. Mass produced cattle and birds. I don't know the era though - just that it died out very quickly. Hand rearing and so forth has gone.
possibly to do with rising population, when there came to be too many Robinsons owning farms
I remember they were in use in the 1960's
