It seems I might have misjudged Johnny Rotten. Going forward from his splendid interview by Mr Humphrys on the Today Program, he has now had a Q+A session in today's Guardian. Some extracts ::

He thinks Russell Brand is Arshole Number One !

He states that UKIP are a black hole for the ignorant to fall into !

Nobody sensible voted for Lady Voldemort apparently...(clue::: former Tory PM, now just former)

"There is no religion. Once you understand that, you'll be happier"

He wouldn't accept a knighthood...doesn't need, doesn't want.

Priceless !

is anyone interested in his views ,i'm not .
This guy's just sooo funny!

Serious question. Does he take drugs or did he used to as he seems very incoherent in a coherent way if that makes sense?

Why would he get a knighthood when he sung a song saying f*** the queen or something similar? I would have though that instead of the queen giving him a knighthood she would have rather strung him up on the gallows or had him in the stocks if this was the 16th century.
He now advertises Country Life butter. Oooh, very punk !
Oh, is that him on Country Life Butter. Oh, well, don't buy it anyway and he wouldn't persuade me.

He was asked by Humphrys why he advertised butter and his reply was...why not, as he likes butter. For once Humprhys, or Silly Sausage as he is now called behind his back, was at a loss as to what to say !
I have met and ionterviewed John Lydon, and he is one of the driest, most amusing, intelligent musicians I have ever met.

I think he is misjudged because some people mistake his irony for truth, which he loves of course.

Henrietta - "Why would he get a knighthood when he sung a song saying f*** the queen or something similar?"

The Pistols' hymn to Her Majesty is not as it first appears - and first impressions are not always correct.

When Rotten sings - "God save The Queen, you ain't no human being .... they made you a moron ..."

he is not not insulting the monarch - but the monarchy. It is the institution he rails against - the fact that the Queen is just a figurehead and portrayed as having no thoughts or opinions of her own.

mikey - "He was asked by Humphrys why he advertised butter and his reply was...why not, as he likes butter. For once Humprhys, or Silly Sausage as he is now called behind his back, was at a loss as to what to say !"

As Mt Lydon is more than happy to admit - the shedloads of money he obtained for the campaign was too good to turn down.

In that, he has always been consistent - never pretending that he didn't want and enjoy the money his notoriety has bought him over the years.
Trouble is people will hang on to every word he says because of what he was. Love him or hate him you can't take away the fact that he was iconically important in a certain time and place.

I agree with you AH, and I would liked to have been a fly on the wall when you were interviewing him.

But you have mentioned that you are the "Press" twice today ! Your real name isn't Jeremy Paxman by any chance is it ! ?
mikey - If I had Mr Paxman's money, i would be sunning myself on an island somewhere, not sitting in rainy Stoke posting on here in between stints of working on my day job!!!
''He thinks Russell Brand is Arshole Number One !''

Rotten's not all bad then...
//He states that UKIP are a black hole for the ignorant to fall into//

Can't put it better than that.
