This seems like a simple oversight.

But what is it with newspapers nowadays? Are they addicted to the word 'outrage' even where nobody is really outraged?

A simple oversight? Whoever designed that either has a very poor knowledge of history - or is completely stupid! Sickening!
I can honestly say that I wouldn't have looked at that top and thought Holocaust, it's ugly though, but that's a matter of opinion.
I agree with Rocky.

No sorry.....I had to look at the picture and concentrate before i saw the likeness.
Yes sp. a simple oversight.
but perhaps some people want to buy it. Next it will be the cross of St. George offending muslims because of the crusades.
Its a non story....an oversight corrected and apologised for, they will be saying that Zara is anti semetic next.
It's certainly a Sherriff's badge and not a Star of David......and the stripes are thinly horizontal rather than being broader vertical ones.

I'm not surprised that designer didn't consider that this may cause 'outrage' but having unwittingly done so has withdrawn the offending item.....which is rather decent of them.
I'm in the wrong job! Bar the star, in what way does the garment resemble a sheriffs outfit? A career as a fashion designer awaits me!

Must admit the outfit immediately reminded me of the Holocaust, but then I've been to Dachau and Auschwitz.

I can see the resemblance, but it might be because I know what I'm looking for. I wonder if I saw it in real life, would I notice?

I don't know...

The Nazis were well known for persecuting Sheriffs.
If there had been a waistcoat print on it and the star a gold colour it wouldn't have been a problem.
As I said, to me it bears no resemblance to a sheriff whatsoever.
It's certainly more Buchenwald than Boot Hill!

The Sheriff star looks nothing like the concentration camp star

The concentration camp Uniform had vertical stripes, and the pyjamas have horizontal ones.

It looks nothing like a concentration camp uniform. Anyone offended by it must be going out of their way to be outraged, or have a poor memory of how the real uniform looked.
//It looks nothing like a concentration camp uniform.//

Except for the colouring, the striped material (albeit the stripes are horizontal), and the big yellow star pinned to the chest. Apart from that, there is no resemblance whatsoever.
Bar the direction of the stripes Gromit I see a striking resemblance:

I may be wrong but I believe the picture of the insignia you gave may be exclusive to one camp, as most had their own unique system/insignia.
Anyway, how long has John Galliano been working for Zara?
When I was young I had a cowboy outfit and it didn't look like a concentration camps uniform in any shape or form. Does ZARA really expect us to believe that their designers were not aware of the similarity ?

Pull the other one, as it has bells on it !
I would presume the designer is far to young to connect their design with that of a concentration camp uniform. However, this top bears no resemblance to a sheriff in any shape or form, is very ugly and I can't imagine any child wanting to wear it.
// Except for the colouring, the striped material (albeit the stripes are horizontal), and the big yellow star pinned to the chest. Apart from that, there is no resemblance whatsoever. //

No there isn't.

1. Thin stripes instead of thick ones.
2. Totally wrong shade of blue.
3. Horizontal strpes instead of vertical ones.
4. 38 colured stripes instead of 12.
5. A star instead of a yellow triangle.
6. No buttons.
7. No collar.

Apart from all those differences, it is exactly the same.
