Which after effects are scaring you?
Had mine out 4 years ago via keyhole surgery. Easy peasy, I was home the next day with no ill effects whatsoever. However, if for some reason they have to cut you open then it is a bit more problematical. Don't wish to worry you, but if it's keyhole the chances are you'll be fine.

Jack some patients seem to have a long term problem with nausea and diarrhoea.
I had mine removed two years ago. It is a routine operation and there are very few risks associated with it, particularly if it is done using the keyhole method.

I had mine removed using the open method as my gallbladder had become very inflamed. Was a bit uncomfortable at first, but modern analgesia is very effective and I wouldn't say it was painful.

You will be fine. Surgeons will always explain things to you if you ask, so don't be shy!
I had mine removed 30 odd years ago. I was cut and was OK, compared to the pain I suffered prior to the op I would say you have not a lot to worry about.

You'll feel tons better.. reiterating jack's question, what's scarring you Fusion?
Why is this in History?

Quick, safe operation with good results.

If done by a competent surgeon, complications are infrequent, although ANY operation can have complications.

As Obiter say if it is laparoscopic it has a short recovery time........abdominal intervention can prolong the time spent in recovering.
I had mine out (keyhole) 12 years ago.......was bloomin' glad to get rid of it and the pain. Like Obiter I was home the next day and have had NO after effects.

As with all operations, people will experience different effects but I imagine the symptoms you describe are 'unusual' and will hopefully be short-lived.
No nausea and diarrhoea for me Fusion... I felt great once I got over the operation, never looked back.

Ta muchy for all your encouraging answers. Lol lol not sure why this is in History.

PMSL. Are you suggesting that there is such a thing as an incompetent surgeon?
Good luck for next week Fusion... You'll be fine, enjoy the rest and take it easy x
I had mine out laproscopically just over two years ago, op done and home the same day. Was just glad to get the thing out of me :)

Recovery wasn't too bad at all, was back at work two weeks after the op.

I had bile acid malabsorption before anyway, it's managed similarly to any diarrhoea issues after gallbladder surgery though I understand it's not very common.

I know a quite a few people who have had their gallbladders out and can't think of one of them who has had such a problem since.

If you are reading online, it's going to be mostly people who have an issue, whether or not it's connected, rather than all the people who had a successful operation and recovered fine and didn't have to put up with the awful issues the gallbladder can cause.

Thanks again you lovely people for your answers, I'll try not to worry but I am a wussy woo when it comes to anything that involves hospitals.
You're no different from thousands of us Fusion - an impending op is always scary no matter how favourable the prognosis is. Grin and bear it I'm afraid. Good luck anyway.
My after effect was...... I ate my first bacon butty in years, with no probs. :)
I had my Gall Bladder out in 1995 after years of pain and discomfort - I was in one afternoon and out again in two days. A week of work to recover from the discomfort and then I was fine, I had another week of work as a skive because I could get away with it.

I was given the offending Gallstone, it was the size of a small Chickens egg - I've still got it in a drawer somewhere.

I can eat anything with no side effects, after eating red meat I'm a bit 'loose' the next day - if you know what I mean - but it's worth it for the pleasure of eating meat again.
