Everest, by Mallory in 1922.
It seems for altitude, Edward Norton on Everest in 1924, but until Everest was definitely climbed by Hilary there were also a series of summit records elsewhere, so take your pick

Jeffa, I believe it was 1924. This is what Hilary said regarding the theory that Mallory did reach the top: "If you climb a mountain for the first time and die on the descent, is it really a complete first ascent of the mountain? I am rather inclined to think personally that maybe it is quite important, the getting down, and the complete climb of a mountain is reaching the summit and getting safely to the bottom again."[55] Jeffery Archer wrote a really gripping novel about the Mallory Expedition..."Paths Of Glory".
An interesting aside is that Mallory's younger brother was Air Chief Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory.
For an actual summit reached, it was Annapurna (world's 10th highest peak) in 1950 by Maurice Herzog (who died only about a year ago) and Louis Lachenal.
i am a hutki saab
I'd have to say, the mountain of ironing I have piling up at the moment. Seems to me to be nearly the height of Everest.
I'll be tackling it later , single handedly and will make base camp at the T shirts.
