All the constellations are based on mythological characters. Orion was a hunter in Greek mythology. The Orion constellation is at the side of the Eridanus constellation, the river near which Orion hunted. Orion also stands above the constellations of Canis Major and Canis Minor, his two hunting dogs. The main star in Canis Major and is called Sirius, the Dog Star, which is the 5th brightest object in the sky.
