just had email from the 1911 site and the whole of england is now live online: http://www.1911census.co.uk the good thing about the service is that you can do your preliminary eliminating searches for free and not waste your money. as long as you have sufficient info from other sourse you can really narrow your options down.

Thanks Dot that is most helpful and being able to do some of for free is a bonus. Some of the others are very expensive.

hi cazzz, yes it is still pay per view, however, most people looking at 1911 will be able to eliminate some options before actually reading the transcript for a household, which isn't too expensive. If you then want to pay the premium to look at the actual return that is when it gets expensive. The transcript in most cases would be adequate initially to give you the details you need to jump back further.
I have found it very good value, of course the older you are the less people you need to look up on the 1911, I found my 4 grandparents, all of them were living at home, which meant i also found my great grandparents, all 8 still beinmg alive, i wish there was a definitiver book on researching your family tree on a budget, it would be a best seller
