Ancestor is Samuel Stanley born Walsall Q1 1916 - mother is WITHERS, siblings Alice 1912 and Ernest W 1914 ............ can anyone find the correct marriage for Stanley/Withers please? It's likely to be in Walsall, or close surroundings I believe ............. perhaps the 1911 census might help assuming they were married then. I can only find a Florence Maud Withers in 1906 in West Brom (from free bmd search) possibly with spouse of Albert Stanley ........... Are they together on the 1911? Where? and do they have children at that point? HEEEEELLLPPP! Thanks!

florence maud withers married edwin goodyere in 1908 at west brom
actually there is a marriage for a florence maud withers and albert stanley in 1906 at west brom too, wonder why they're not apparent on the 1911?
Unless you know either of the parent's christian names I think you need Samuel's birth certificate.
For instance when his parents married his mother may have been a widow so the name on the marriage registration will be other than Withers.
florence was born in oldbury in 1888 and married at christ church walsall in 1906 her parents were joseph and emily withers nee higgs, maybe i can find her on the 1901 now

hi craft, it's the only stanley/withers marriage prior to 1912, when sister alice's birth was registered under Stanley with mothers maiden name withers. could be that Albert was in the military and florence was not living with him at the time of the 1911, i've looked for her parents and siblings from the 1901 b can't get them in 1911 either.
Yes but as I've said dotty, she may not have been Withers on the marriage registration..............
ok albert stanley who married florence died in 1918, he was born in 1885

Thanks both - we are 99% certain the maiden name was Withers (although I take your point Craft) and so the Albert Stanley and Flo M Withers must be the one ........ Dotty, the 1911 entry you quote for Albert Stanley says "India" is this a ship or where he was? Were we fighting in Indian in 1911 (excuse my ignorance) or would he just be posted there .... if he dies in 1918, how do I find if it was in WWII?
