No upgrades coming but one has just happened where the hard drive went from 20 gig to 60 gig as standard.

I think I shall be happy keeping the harddrive at a 20gig personally.
I just hate buying something for like £200, and then a few months later like in this case the xbox 720 would come out and then xbox 360 is now a old console and only worth like £75.

20GB is too small for the 360 after a couple of years.
There is no new console expected from Microsoft for another couple of years or so, so don't worry about it being obsolete as soon as you buy it. The only problem you will have is with trying to play older games online, their player base is limited as everyone always rushes to play the newest games, so the only players left are annoying kids who can afford the game now or diehard fans who are very good at it.
Having said that, it's the same with any online game on any system so that's unavoidable really.

You were probably an annoying kid once cakeboy! My 11 year old son regularly beats much older players on xbox live playing Halo3 and similar games.

I'm not referring to kids beating me, I don't care about that. What gets me is the endless abuse because they think, as one told me the other day, they are "gangsta", the singing - because they know it annoys people, the inane chattering about nothing to do with the game - I could go on, but I won't :)

You must mean the slightly older kids than my son then cakeboy for the 'gangsta' thing.I have heard some of the stuff they come out with and after one incident with someone threatening my son and being really graphically abusive we had to file a complaint. I do agree about the singing and stupid noises being annoying and I don't allow my son to do any of that. Our 360 is in the lounge where all gaming can be supervised,I think the problems occur when kids are allowed to have the console in their bedrooms and no adult is around to curtail the idiot behaviour!

I agree completely, and congratulate you on making your son aware.
Sadly, the only thing you can do is file a complaint and leave them a bad review, but it's a start from Microsoft.
