I used to work at Game and it seems like less and less games are coming out on the ps2.. most new games coming out on playstation are limited to just the ps3 as they want to modernize everything. It's like the Xbox.. We recently stopped selling the original games because they become less and less popular and eventually the companies stop bringing games out on the older formats.

Yes support for the PS2 will stop soon. How soon depends on demand and Sony being bothered to make games for it.
From what I've seen in the past with games consoles, the console producer normally starts to wind down game production around a 1 - 2 years after the new console comes out. Depending on popularity of the old console.
All the best titles are now on the PS3, with a fairly limited selection of new games on the PS2.
Don’t expect to see GTA 4 or haze on the PS2

Although the PS3s havnt been as popular as thought so we could get a little extra PS2 time ;)
