need help finding griffin on spiderwick chronicles!

im at the bit in the spiderwick chronicles on ps2 where your in the quarry and you have to find the griffin. it says on the quest page something along the lines of 'find the griffins perch. look for a Tree Folk similar to the one high in the quarry'.

so where the bloody hell is this griffin and what the bloody hell is a tree folk?

ive lost about half a day being stuck at this bit and there are no walkthroughs on the net anywhere because its such a recent game, so any suggestions are very welcome!
