I'm trying to use my XBox 360. However, when I put a disc in and close the tray, it says "reading and then "open tray". When open, it says "close tray", when closed it says "reading" and then "open tray". And so on.

Has anyone any ideas on what to do?

Sounds like either the disc is very dirty or the drive needs cleaning, if you check the disc and it appears smudged then clean it with a soft cloth wiping from the centre to the edge. If it still has the problem then try other discs and if they have the same problem then it's the drive and you'll need to try a DVD cleaning disc.
