well they are antique, bakelite is no longer made.
Or what if you try to swallow one and choke ?

Why be concerned about bakelite ? It's just a plastic ?
Gon't tell me that ISIL are thinking of packing high explosives into them - holy checkers.
I'm going to cancel my visit to that sudden-death checkers tournament. :-/
Bakelite has not been made since the 1960s, there are collectors of Bakelite items now. It is starting to get valuable. It was brittle and Bakelite products did break but it was not a problem.

Well thank u all 4 yr answers. Only Eddie gave me practical answer.
Old Geezer: I just brought 2 sets of Bakerlite checkers but I looked into the manufacturing process & the use of Formaldehyde etc plus articles on what happens if they break. Then the Bakerlite test. So I started being a bit hypochondriac about it all. Checkers are often slammed down so I make hit or catch the odd fragment.
Svejk: yes these competitors take their games seriously and I might get one throw at me.
