Can I use 2 tablespoons of milk in place of an egg.?

I need 2 eggs only have one. Was thinking years ago I was told you can replace it with milk.? Would anyone know. many thanks.

my old recipe for bread pudding. Not bread and butter pudding.
Surely egg acts as a rising agent in cakes and breads, milk doesn't have those properties. I would think if you substitute egg with milk then you would have to use baking powder.
