Hello people,

I have got a recipe for icing fairy cakes with buttercream icing. (For my 4 years olds party cakes)
Anyway I was just wondering how I make icing in vivid bright colours, not pastel. I.e, ben 10 bright green, Bright red etc..
I made some buttercream icing, added the colours and they came out very runny and very pastel.
Hope you can help
Thanks
Jo

Just keep gradually adding food colouring and stirring it in until you get the colour you want
I'm assuming that you used liquid colour for the buttercream icing and this will make the icing more runny because you're adding a liquid to the mixture.
It is better to use a paste colour for icings as you can add as much as you like without this problem.
You can pick up paste colours from any cake decorating shops or the internet.
I have a supercook red food colouring (liquid) that actually comes out a briliant pink!
paste food colourings are great, you an get the colours as vivid or pale as you please, you can't get the same results with liquids.....
