When I go into Ikea, the restaurant there does the most amazing Dime Bar Cake. When we lived in Germany we could buy Dime Bars..I'm not sure if you can get them over here. The cake tastes just like them.

Does anyone know where I can get a recipe to make the cake..without resorting to asking Ikea?

Don't know the recipe but you can most definatly buy Dime bars here!

This is one my wife makes...its delicious!

DIME BAR CAKE

Ingredients

4 Dime bars
4 eggs
4oz ground almonds
5oz icing sugar
4oz caster sugar
3/4pint whipping cream

Method

Separate eggs and whip whites until stiff. Fold in icing sugar and almonds. Pour the mixture into a9inch cake tin with loose bottom and bake at 180C for 45 minutes. Leave to cool in the tin

Whisk egg yolks and caster sugar until thick and creamy. Whip the cream until thick and mix together. Chop the Dime bars into small pieces and add to the mixture. Pour into the tin and freeze overnight.

(I usually turn the cake out of the tin onto a serving plate while still frozen and then leave for a short while to de-frost slightly before serving)

Knowall - do you bake the top part as well?  don't fancy the raw eggs but the rest looks good!
No, only the bottom part is baked. This is more of an ice-cream cake, the top part is added and frozen. I never worry about raw eggs in a mixture as there are so many recipes that need them. I think it is only really the very young or infirm and perhaps preganant women that are advised against eating them. It's up to you ........there is always some risk in life and this is one occasion when its worth taking one! Hope you enjoy it.

Greedyfly, I'm not a big chocolate eater, and haven't looked over here for Dime bars (Daim in Germany!), but I will now! Thank you.
