Fan assisted oven

Good afternoon, we recently purchased a second hand gas cooker with a fa assisted electric oven.

There are no instructions as such with the oven, and everything we buy says to adjust the cooking time for fan assisted ovens.

Does` anyone know how much time the adjustment is? Do I reduce the cooking time by 50%, 25% or what?

Many thanks in advance

fan assisted ovens are generally 25 degrees hotter than it says on the dial, so if the recipe says 180 degrees put your dial at 155. it is hit and miss though as each oven is different

reduce the temp by about 20 degrees and time by 10 mins or so depending on overall cooking time. They are all different so, like any oven, there can be some trial and error. I have just moved house and have inherited a conventional oven and will be going back to fan as quickly as I can. Having said that there will be other people who swear by conventional and some prefer gas to electric.

Buy an oven thermometer.

Reduce recipe temp by 10-15%

Reduce recipe times by 10%

Check how well done your dish is 5-10 mins before end of cooking

Seasy, bin doing it for 12 years now

I normally reduce temp by about 20C and it cooks about 5min quicker. Like say it varies with each oven.

Fan ovens are good aswel as dont need to worry about which shelf it goes in ie. if says cook on middle, with fan it dont matter.

Happy cooking!
