Drink it...and it doesn't matter how many solid chunks there are in it, in case anyone suggests it does.

I drink Tomato Soup, but drink & eat Vegetable Soup. I chew the vegetables as I would any other vegatable.

But Quizzy's theory is probably corrct! ;o}

*vegetable & correct!

If it's in a cup I drink it.
Eaten with a spoon from a plate is eating, no matter how liquid.

At least to me!

I'm with Bohne!
bohne & plocket - so if you consume milk or water from a spoon you're eating it then?

Seem to be having a similar discussion on Here ........

Who cares !................just enjoy

I care. Thus I asked the question.
Sorry Begram didn't mean to be rude, long time since breakfast feeling a bit peckish! Would love a bowl of soup.
In Latin, 'tostus' means 'baked dry' and thus our word 'toast'. In the 17th century, pieces of toasted bread were often added to beer to improve the taste and hence we got the idea of "Let's drink a toast to..."
I think we're all quite happy with the taste of beer nowadays - well, I am! - but what if that old tradition were revived? Would those of you who claim we eat soup expect a man to tell his wife when he got home a little late that: "I ate a couple of pints with John after work"?
The opening three words in The Oxford English Dictionary's definition of 'soup' are "a liquid food..."
We drink liquids whether or not there is solid material in them...simple as that.
I just knew Quizzy's theory would be correct!
so what quizmonster is basically saying is that if he was by any chance invited to a restaurant, he would pick a bowl of soup and drink it! Vegetables and all. with croutons sticking to his face, just out of principle that soup must be drunk. surely it depends on the the situation if you are at home then drink it. if your out in a restaurant then use a spoon like any other normal human being.

No, what quizmonster is correctly saying is that even though you use a spoon to put the soup in your mouth, you are still drinking it, you are not eating it.

What you seem to be suggesting is that quizmonster has no manners and would just be sticking his face into the bowl.

Eaten, from a correctly held soup spoon..................
Thanks for that, Fatboy...exactly right. Exactly right, too, Adi400, insofar as far as I might "pick a bowl of soup and drink it". Sadly, exactly wrong as regards my method of consuming it.
i think you eat it because when a waiter comes and asks you what you eat, you say soup.
quiz, you admit that soup is a liquid food. we don't drink liquids; we drink drinks. we eat food, even liquid foods.
