To freeze mushrooms, slice them and either sauté in butter or oil, steam or blanch. Cool to room temperature and pack in rigid containers. Cook from frozen unless stir-frying, when you will need to thaw them first in order to avoid being splashed by hot oil when you add them to the pan"

thank you, however i put them in the veg drawer with lots of kitchen roll underneath but they still sort of sweat. will try the freeze method and see if i don't waste them.
frozen mushrooms are nasty. I keep mine in the body of the fridge, not the veg drawer and the very first thing i do when I choose the pack I will buy is to poke a hole in the plastic to let them breathe. They keep for around a week and tend to dry a bit instead of going slimey, they are still usable for about a week. I have also got one of those gadgets (well 2 actually) that sit in the fridge and keep veg fresher for longer, they seem to work too.
We store mushrooms in a paper bag on the open shelves of the fridge and they last some days (about a week at most) - the way they deteriorate is simply by drying out. Stored in a mostly airtight container (including in a fridge drawer) tends to cause them to become wet on the surface and begin to rot.
I buy them in a paper bag ! in fridge but can breath...last around 4/5 days before they start to turn
I go on the answer that things that are in the chiller cabinets in supermarket can go in your fridge. Things that are not, don't.
So why do people put things like that in a fridge. Do you find eggs in the chiller cabinets. No. So why do people put them in fridges?
Apparently, malagabob, the supermarkets are kept at a cooler temperature than our kitchens. That's why eggs etc are not refrigerated there. Also I suppose their turnaround is quicker.
I find mushrooms keep better Not in fridge. I use them over a few days then when they start going I thread them onto to twine and hang them in airing cupboard to dry. When fully dried store in air tight box to use in soups and stews.
