A friend made me some jam, but it is much too sweet - is there anyway I can tone it down somehow ? it is also rather runny so any liquid would only make it worse.

Add more fruit & reboil till its thicker.
I agree with tamborine. I have only made jam twice, the first time I followed the recipe but it was far too sweet so the next time I only put 1/2 to 2/3rds of sugar what the recipe said and it really was lovely and there was no problem with it setting.

Thanks for advice - [me cook ?] but I will have a go. It is rhubarb jam and I have a tin of rhubarb so will try combining them.
Get fresh rhubarb because I think tinned rhubarb will be too sweet and will defeat the object. You won't need much unsweetened fresh rhubarb.
I wonder if its really worth it? ;-)

Use it for a Victoria Sponge or some other dessert, or quietly lose it!
Try Marmite or Gentlemens Relish instead!

I will experiment and post the results
Victoria sponge - surely you don' expect me to cook one ?
Marmite or relish - on scones ??
No I wouldn't back a sponge either! But I might stir the jam into porridge in the morning.

Lots of ideas - thanks to everyone.
Try adding cooked sliced apples, unsweetened and then boil. This will both thicken the jam and make it less sweet.
Savoury scones, marvellous.
