thanks Mamy - Ewings used to be in city centre if my memory is correct.

Yes I know where they are and I could drive to it - better than going into town.
Why does it have to be expensive fish? Why not just have fish you know you like?

like a wee change Ummmm and will be entertaining soon and these guests simply love fish.
I think Monkfish is highly regarded though I've never tried it.
A bit over rated imo, Sandy. I love a nice rare tuna steak.
Sea Bass is nice as a dinner party offering.
Halibut has always been thought of as one of the most expensive fish available in the UK (and it's certainly a nice fish to eat) but, if I was going an expensive fish which has long been available here I'd prefer Dover sole.

However fish which have only become widely available in supermarkets (etc) over the last few decades often have more flavour. Consider swordfish, if you can get it (look for white flesh, rather than grey), or red snapper.

Good fish doesn't have to be expensive though. Really fresh sardines, simply grilled and served with some nice bread, can be just as tasty.
Seabass is lovely...especially cooked whole.
As Mamya says, sea bass can be lovely (and it's often available quite cheaply in Asda, et al).
Th Seabass, would it be baked in foil?
