Why have I suddenly developed hay fever? I've never had it before but these last two weeks my eyes have been sore and weeping and my nose is irritated. Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions for an effective treatment will be most welcome.

It was reported last year that more people will get hay fever symptoms. I don't usually get effected but last year I had trouble with weepy eye and itchy nose! Think it's due to pollution?
Eat some local honey. I haven't tried it myself but apparently it works.
i find the beconase nasal spray keeps the worst of the symptoms at bay

I developed hay-fever two year ago, felt like I had a bit grit in each eye and they were constantly streaming for about a week. Had a gap and got it again this year but only in one eye and not as severe as the first time.
Otrivine-Antistin eye drops.......can be bought over the counter.
Beconase for nose symptoms is also a good shout.
I suffered from hay fever for about 5 years, in my mid-twenties, but then it disappeared, never to return. I guess I built up my own resistance.
Is it hay-fever or is it a reaction to the acres of rape in the fields at the moment? I have a friend who can't come to Norfolk whist it's still rampant in the fields.

Hi zebo. I'm actually in Yorkshire although my avatar is in Norfolk. But you may be right, because we do have fields of rape around here.

Thanks to all for suggestions.
rabat - I started with an allergic asthma a few years ago (I'm in my 60's). It only lasted a few weeks and was put down to a tree pollen (either oak or birch). I then didn't get it for a couple of years, but now I'm really husky and feel my chest clogged-up. I'm in E, Yorkshire and the rape is in full flower,so I think it might be that. Fortunately, I sing, so my lung capacity is greater than most.
I developed hay fever many years ago when a field behind our house was planted with oil seed rape. It was awful for several years until I got some local honey (and it MUST be local to where you live) and had a teaspoon every morning before food and drink. It worked and I've been h/f free for years.
Best of luck xx
"Why have I suddenly developed hay fever?"

Well every hay fever sufferer had to get for the first time once!
I thought I must have a cold but don't feel ill. It is obviously hay fever, can't stop blowing my nose and eyes keep running too.
