Can anyone tell me how hard these are to use? I'm thinking of the cheaper ones that are hand held rather than the larger ones with a handle to turn? I'm wanting to try one but wonder if turning for instance a carrot, might be hard going?

The handheld one reviewed here seemed to be useless:

Those who've bought the most popular model on Amazon seem to disagree greatly with each other:

Vissybubble, save your money!!! I have one and I've yet still not figured out how to use it. I have one with an handle, but it is the positioning of the veg, it just does not stay in place!!! A waste of my money!!

Thank you Both! I will save my money! Have read the reviews and they really don't look worth the trouble. One of those gadgets that would be stuffed to the back of the cupboard after a short while. Mary Berry made it look so easy too!
oh no .... just bought one..... oh well will give it a go anyway!
You can now buy ready spiralled butternut squash and courgettes in both Saninsburys and Tesco and very nice it is too.

Lol MallyJ. Let me know when you've had a go!
I watched Mary use one too - think she had a stunt man under the worktop.
But I can recommend a julienne peeler. Lovely thin strips of your fave veg. Looks good in stir fries and salads.
I have a tabletop spiralizer...and have no trouble keeping the veg in place.
I got one six months ago after reading about them in the tried and tested part of Good Housekeeping mag, it has a handle and the veg needs to be the right length but I love it. We eat more veg now, spiralled veg instead of pasta and sweet potato, carrots etc can be spiralled and then steamed.
