Look like cherries.
Redcurrants?
holly berries?
Cranberries .
They are faux berries, blobs of red plastic on green wire stems. No idea what they are supposed to be.
Cranberries maybe ?
the faux berries comment applies to danny's link
Fresh cranberries with fake snow
The cover on my old hardback edition is different from the paperback bacedition.

I think they are Pyracantha berries
Trishy, I agree with you.
On first look they appear to be cranberries but on closer inspection, and google images of both pyracantha and cranberries, there's no mistaking. It's the way the berries grow in a cluster on those slim stems, the leaves, and the little black bits on the bottom of the berries.
//Pyracantha berries are mildly poisonous as their seeds contain cyanogenic glycosides (as do apples, plums, cherries, and almonds[4]) and can cause mild gastro-intestinal problems when eaten raw in large quantities;[4][5][6] they are edible only when crushed and washed under running water. They have been made into jelly.//

A bit naughty on a cook book cover.
I suppose it is mamya. It gives recognition to the photographer, inside the back cover, but nowhere does it say what the berries are. Nor does it give a tasty recipe for pyracantha so we're probably safe from poisoning... :)
Was a mere comic note, agree with what they are though.
a lot of hoo ha about an oul picture on a cookery book - who cares - it is the recipes inside that are more important.
Unless its for a quiz of some kind Conn, then I imagine it's quite important.
Well, it's a question and answer site JJ, so it seems a reasonable place to ask a reasonable question. Like BOO, I've assumed it's some kind of quiz question...
after 18 answers - nobody has got the quiz right then.

Many thanks for the range of suggestions. It is actually for a local church quiz which I omitted to mention with the initial question. Need to talk to my colleague about what to go with - will mark a best answer in due course!
