A new policy on dress code standards issued by Gloucestershire Police advises officers to be clean shaven, or wear a beard net.

How do you feel about this?

I understand the need for beard nets in food preparation, but the police?

Also, the guidelines suggest that tattoos should be covered and that female officers should wear 'minimal make-up'.

I presume that as only females will be instructed to use minimal make up males can wear full slap....is this so they can cover up their tattoos? how daft....

Daft. I do agree with the tattoos and makeup though.
I can't see the point in beard nets...is it to stop bits from your lunch dropping on to criminals ?
a criminal could get a nasty scratch from a beard net if he was resisting arrest ... they haven't thought it through

Maybe to appease some religion who have those long scraggly beards ? I agree with the makeup and tatoos
I don't think I could keep a straight face talking to someone with a net on their face.

Yes to minimal make up and covering of tattoos where possible.
I fully agree with tattoos being covered and females with the minimum amount of make up. They should also have short haircut or tied neatly back. Some look an absolute disgrace wearing a uniform.
If he (or she) is going to be preparing a cold chicken salad for me, absolutely, otherwise get a grip Gloucestershire.

Tattoos, especially that 'tribal' guff should be lasered off. No restrictions on guyliner though, quizzical stares could result in a nice wee earner for assault.
This comes in the 'You couldn't make it up' category.
It seems a bizarre thing to ask them to do - makes me wonder about the sanity of whoever made the idea up/

I suppose that if the girls are allowed to wear make-up then the guys will be able to as well. I probably wouldn't even notice.

Its in case their tasers set em on fire when they adding up sheep
Rounding up not adding up.
Sounds crazy, whats next mustash nets'?
Bring on the robo cops!
Some bushy eyebrows and hairs coming out of their ears as well. The policemen are no better.
I think the beard net thing is about safety and self defence. If you wear an uncut beard for religious reasons, it could be a problem if you had to do physical restraint or if you were attacked. I have often seen Sikh men wearing beard nets in everyday life, usually when they are wearing a suit and tie or "office" type clothing.

Good point - male police officers (if they follow the rule to the letter) will be able to shave their beards off, and wear as much make up as Katy Price without contravening these new rules.
And in the interest of non gender discrimination have the same chest enhancement surgery.
They shouldn't even be allowed to wear beards which require to be netted.
What complete & utter moron thought that one up, and why the heck is anyone listening to them ? Or is it 1st April already ?
