Just wondering if anyone can help with this. I tried to log in to my bank account log in. After entering my user name a message flashed up "we are unfamiliar with the computer you are using". As this was the same computer that I always used I did not go any further. I was scared that someone was trying to hack into my account. Has anyone ever had this message and what does it mean? Was I right not to continue or have I overreacted? Many thanks for your help.

Do you have a phone number to contact your bank to ask them what that means?

Hello sandyRoe. I will check their website and see the contact number. Thanks for replying.
Make sure it is the correct website. Would you have the number somewhere on a document from them?
Is it Santander?

If so, there is some discussion here - I cannot vouch for any advice they give.

Good point. You are exactly right. I will check documents I have from the bank. Excellent guidance - thank you very much for that.

Mamyalynne - thanks for the link. Extremely interesting reading. I'm not sure about my system and cookies so I will investigate that now.
Hc4361 - don't think I was using a different browser.

I get that message if I don't use the usual browser.
It also happens if you have cleared your "cookies". You may not have done this deliberately but it may have happened as a result of a browser cleanup (I use Firefox and I have to do this from time to time).

When this happens my bank sends "one time access code" to my mobile. I enter this and it's back to normal.

That's interesting hc4361. I don't think I used a different browser. I have a favourites shortcut set up and I just click on that. This is the same procedure I always use.

Thanks New Judge. Yes the link Mamyalynne attached points to a cookie clean up. That could very well be the case and I will investigate that aspect thoroughly.
