I was having a girly lunch with some friends yesterday - we are all the same age - and we got onto the subject of our forenames. We agreed that all our forenames date us to the decade in which we were born.
Does yours?

What decade does Peter come from?
Maybe I don't want to know;-)
Not really. Was quite unusual when I was at school (only ever met one other at school, and her name was spelt slightly differently). I was born in 1966, and the name is more popular now .
My friend has called her baby Elsie, and that's now a popular name for little ones.

If I hear the name Peter I would guess 1960's and earlier
Mine does not, having existed since time immemorial, but some do. For example, to my mind anyone called Shirley was born in the mid thirties.
Question Author
campbelking - Ilike how some of the older names are back in use, such as Elsie. I have yet to hear of a baby being called Ethel....
Dammm, You've pegged me Mrs_Overall.

My children are called Rebecca, Christopher, Mitchell and Bradley, are they also dated?
Question Author
Blackadder, to me, Shirley is a 1950's name
I think my name was mainly popular in the 60's / 70's

My cousin has just named her baby Nancy after my nan (originally Agnes) so I think the older names are making a come back.
Question Author
1ozzy, to me your childrens names are late 1980;s and into the 90's
Definitely 30s, after Shirley Temple.
Being a shy child, I used to hate having to spell my name for teachers, and was always a little frustrated that I couldn't buy anything with my name written on it (oh, to be called Tracey...)
All in the nineties Mrs_Overall, you are good at this game.

ps: I was a late breeder, but once I started.....
Question Author
campbelking, to me Tracey is a 1960's name. It is not a name I am fond of as I associate it with a bully I knew at school
I don't think mine does. It's Jennifer but I won't answer to anything but Jenny or Jen :)

Question Author
Daffy, your name to me is 1950's and 60's
My grandfather, b. 1880, and my father, b. 1916, .were both called Walter. How many Walters do you know today?
Well, I am a child of the sixties! Mind you, was involved in a minor accident with 4 other girls in the early eighties, and when the policeman came to talk to me, he said 'I suppose you're called Debbie as well' (five girls, 3 Debbies)
Yes, my given name is Walter but since joining the army in 1950 I have always been called Danny, after the comedian, which has stuck to me.
Question Author
campbelking, the names I associate most with the 1960's are Debbie, Mandy and Tracey
