Cooking Turkey Crowns

I bought a Morrisons crown, and decided (as there's just the 2 of us for Christmas) to cook it beforehand, then slice and freeze etc. I notice that the cooking instructions say to "place the crown into the roasting dish breast down"(!). I have always cooked fowl breast-up, so that the breast skin gets crisp etc. I thought it strange to cook it 'upside down'. I did for a while, think this might even have been a misprint! What do you say folk? Breast up or down please?

down..to let the juices flow through the meat
Cooking breast down is supposed to keep the meat moister. You could turn is the other way up for the last 30 mins or so to crisp the skin.
Breast down to start with then breast up to brown and crisp
I always did breast down then turn over near end to crisp up.
gosh I feel hungry now...crisp roasties and parsnips......
If you haven't already cooked it I would suggest that it would be better to cook it Christmas Eve rather than cook and freeze it sliced. Just my opinion though.
The breast can tend to be dry, hence putting it at the bottom.

Thank you one and all! First 2 hours was breast down, when the tinfoil was removed (for the last 30 minutes) I turned to breast up. Had to cook it today, 'cos it was already defrosted MargoTester - sorry, though I know what you mean.
No probs Mr-H I misunderstood. Hope you had a little taster, don't think I could have resisted!
can smell it from here....
How big is this crown that you have bought for just two people yet needs 2.5hrs cooking?

It must be mahoosive!
eccles..if it were me about half of it would be necked now !
mmm eccles, i alwas buy a bigger turkey than needed - how else are you going to be eating leftovers forever?
You can't beat a portion of turkey curry at Easter....... ;-)
I'll not start another thread with my question as it's pretty much in the same vein. For years, my brood have come to mine for their Christmas dinner but for the last 2 years, my son has played host. We expected him to do so this year but found out yesterday that he's not 'up to it' - all day of a job, he says:-) So, bit too late for me to order turkey crown from butchers and, rather than cook a couple of chickens, i intend to purchase 6 - 8 individual breasts which take approx 20 mins each to cook. My question is, would i be correct in assuming that no matter how many i cook, the cooking time is still just the 20 mins? I actually feel a little foolish for even asking.
Ken - why not try a turkey breast. I get mine from Costco but I think most of the supermarkets do them now. They usually come in a sort of net thing and as long as you put plenty of bacon around them they are lovely, easy to cook and carve and no waste at all. Various sizes but plenty big enough for 8 people - have a look. In answer to you question I would say however many you cook the time would be the same, but check after 20 mins so to to make sure
How about a chicken crown ?
