Can you remember when Calabrese was really expensive/rare and you served it at dinner parties in small quantities?

What else has been 'in' and is now mundane?

Never heard of it so googled. It's broccoli?

I don't think anything is mundane if you enjoy it. I love prawn cocktails, steak Diane and black forest gateau :-)
Smoked salmon
I like smoked salmon as well...
I love MY pavlova - when I make it. Do not like those you get in restaurants - usually hard meringue.

No wonder I have bad teeth - however I only make it about once a year.

Can I give you a nice tip. When you decorate pavlova

Fresh Cream
Fruit (whatever you like)
Sprinkle all over crushed Crunchie (don't tell anybody) - they will all wonder at the fizziness. Yum Yum
I like smoked salmon and tinned salmon but am not at all keen on fresh salmon. Odd.
Anything to do with pasta - I remember 'then' boyfriend bringing some back after a school trip. His mum cooked the lot (a packet of spaghetti) and plonked it on a plate (mid-60's)!
Should add 'olive oil' - I remember going with Mum to chemist's and her buying a tiny bottle of it (for ear-wax).
Another one - lamb shanks.

I used to serve watercress soup. That seemed really exotic!
Haha...I bought some watercress the other day to make a watercress sauce to go with salmon.
Had to re read that, Tilly. I thought exotic read as toxic !.

Boeuf Bourguignon used to be one of my staple dinner party dishes.
Mango & aubergines. Can't say I like aubergines though.
Question Author
I've never had mango and aubergines. Was it a starter or a main?
Remember cooking Boeuf en Croute for husband's boss. Expensive. He picked at a small amount. Tasted great cold!
Question Author
Oh, yes, Daisy. Salmon as well.
Like the idea of aubergines but often taste slimy if overcooked.
