For knowing where to begin when touch typing?
I believe it's finger positioning for touch typing.

Thanks. Never been taught to touch type.

They're the "home" position for the index fingers. If you rest your hands on the keyboard in the correct position (all fingers on the "a" row) the index finger on each hand naturally falls on those keys.

This is a feature that goes back to the old manual typewriter's equipped with "qwerty' keyboards...

Would love to learn to touch type.
Any suggestions?
Who'da thunk there would be no answers as one starts a reply but 5 similar replies grouped within 2 minutes of each other… karma, I suppose...
what's the small blue disc for , above the B. ?
"Would love to learn to touch type - any suggestions?" Night school? There is more discipline when you have a teacher who instantly fails you in an exam if she sees you so much as glance down at the typewriter. I got to RSA II with Distinction, used it for 4 years in an office and never touched a keyboard again until I got my first computer. I hate using a tablet as I can`t touchtype and it drives me mad.

Daisy....do give it a go....if you're disciplined you can do it at home....then you can type while you watch TV......gaze at the stars....close your eyes and dream of Stephen Fry.....

Anneasquith... I don't have a blue disc above the letter "B".

Have you spilt something on your keyboard ? :-)
I am with SJ, when one is a touch typist, anything else...like tablet keyboards really annoy, we get used to it but it feels alien I can assure you. There are places on line you can look at to teach you to touch type, it takes determination going alone unlike in a class where you get expert tuition and told when and what to do.
