Looking at making chilli for the kids for the first time and the recipe says to add 1 tablespoon of mild chilli powder (the recipe is based on 500g of mince) - does that sound like too much?

If it's kids best err on the safe side - don't want to put them off

If they like it increase the strength gradually when making it in future
No no no....too much chilli, a pinch should do kids.

They all like a korma so are not adverse to some spice, a tablespoon just seemed like a lot.

Just checked the recipe, 1 teaspoon of hot or 1 tablespoon of mild - not sure now what the right amount would be. I want it to taste of something but don't want to blow their beds off.
You say "mild" chilli powder....if it is mild that you use, then a tablespoon is not too much. You may only need a teaspoon of the hot chilli powder, however.
Curry would have less chilli powder. Might be best to add few whole green chillies that kids can choose whether to eat or not.
There you are...just what I said, only too slow!!
You could always add half a tablespoon, then taste when its cooked, and add more if you think it needs it. By the way - ideal to cook in a slow cooker!

Won't be making enough to do it in the slow cooker (it's 6.5 litres) and I'm not browning and softening stuff to then bung it in a slow cooker - it either all gets cooked in the slow cooker or it gets cooked the normal way.
Chilli powder should be quick fried or its uncooked & catches in throat.
That sounds the right amount. Add a small square of 70 % coco chocolate 10 mins before the end of cooking, lovely.
Not if it's mild and in my experience (we serve chilli at our school for 2 - 8 yr olds) the children like food with a bit of flavour.

If it's an old recipe, the chilli powder will be cummin and chilli mixed with herbs, not just powdered chillies like the modern stuff.
